Automation is required! You must build an automated loop to have any hope of success. Luckily it's easy: select the Train, click Add Schedule, and add Stops in a loop near Mines, Turrets, and the Base.

The initial Train is sitting on Tracks. Extend new Track off of that Track to make your loops.

To make a Train Stop loop, repeat the first Stop as the last Stop to finish the Loop (e.g. A1 to A2 to A3 to A1).

Build new Trains by first selecting the (B)ase building and click the button for the Train type that you want.

Mines must be adjacent (one tile away) from Train Stops to be Mined successfully. Likewise, Turrets must be adjacent to a Stop to get their Energy refilled by a Train.

You can build a Combat Train that shoots automatically as it moves; it must be refueled with Energy only at the Base, so be sure to have a Stop at the Base for it.

You can Pause the game to catch your breath.

Turrets and Combat Trains will attempt to neutralize Hives in addition to Creeps.

Be sure to build at least one Energy Mine and one Construction Material Mine so that you don't soft lock yourself.

Hive activity will slowly grow stronger over time.

Trains loaded with Construction Material will pause for one second to auto Repair damaged buildings and Track within one tile as they travel.

You can Salvage depleted Mines to clear space.
